MOUNTAIN BIKING: Medicine Bow Railway Trail

← WY PIONEER CANAL WOODS WY Single Tracks →

Description

This is a multiuse trail for non-motorized vehicles in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The trail was converted from an old railroad grade as a Rails-to-Trails project. It has a wide, hard gravel surface. Easily biked by beginners. Runs from near Albany to the north to past Wyocolo near the Colorado border. Many camping spots along the way. For those who want more of a challenge, there are OHV trails that run along the old railroad grade and cross it many times.

Directions

Lake Owen trailhead. Take US 130 west from Laramie for 21 miles. Turn left (south) on CR 11 towards Albany. Turn left (south) on Fox Creek Road. Take Fox Creek Road to FR 517 and take a right. Take FR 517 to FR 540 and take a left. Follow FR 540 to Lake Owen. There are signs to Lake Owen from CR 11 and thereafter. This trail intersects many forest roads and can be access near Albany on Dry Park Road on the north side, or from Pelton Creek road near the Colorado border; see a Medicine Bow NF map.
